Your excursion includes views of Totem Bight Park with clan house and Ketchikan's tallest totem pole, the oldest working fish cannery in Alaska, an authentic floating lumberjack camp, and many mansions and private island homes. Circumnavigate historic Guard Island Lighthouse, established in 1903 and now home to a family of Harbor Seals.

View eagles galore, eagle nests and baby eagles in season. Other wildlife may include Humpback and Orca whales, sea lions, deer, bear, salmon and wolves. Guard Island Lighthouse

Completely circumnavigate this United States Coast Guard Light Station, which became a lighthouse by presidential proclamation in 1903 in the interest of public safety and national security.

This 100-year-old beacon has assisted Alaska's fishermen, ship captains and pleasure boaters along the unpredictable seas of Clarence Strait to find their way safely to and from Ketchikan, as it stands as a primary sentinel in the Inside Passage. The Guard Islands are now home to a family of Harbor Seals, numerous species of sea birds and a nesting pair of American Bald Eagles.

The area is often visited by Humpback whales and Orca "Killer" whales. Learn the historical significance of this site and enjoy the stories and folklore surrounding the lightkeepers and their families who once called this ten acre island their home. Ameircan Bald Eagles & Ten Active Eagle Nests

American Bald Eagle During your time aboard our Excursion vessel, you will have the opportunity to view an abundant population of American Bald Eagles, including ten active eagle nests. These island nests are described in detail as you learn about the eagle's habitat and life cycle. Binoculars are provided on board for your wildlife viewing pleasure.

Harbor Seals make their home at Guard Island and nearby Vallenar Rocks. Most days the seal families will be hauled out on the shore and provide excellent photo opportunities. Other wildlife may include Humpback Whales, Orca "Killer" Whales, black bear, deer & occasionally Timber Wolves.

Totem Bight State Park, Totem Poles & Clan House

Learn about the Haida, Tsimshian and Tlingit Alaskan Native cultures as you view their totem poles and clan house from the historical and unique perspective of the waterfront. Totem Bight Park is home to Alaska's tallest totem pole. Once a Native village, the site began reconstruction in 1938 by using Civilian Conservation Corps funds to hire Native carvers, using traditional tools, to recreate the 15 totem poles and clan house found in the park today.

Your narrator will teach you the ways of the indigenous cultures. Learn about the native arts of carving, weaving, tattooing, beading and painting. Discover the secrets of Native hunting and fishing and what tools and implements were devised and utilized in daily life, ceremonies and war. You will have excellent opportunities to photograph many totem poles and the clan house, as your excursion vessel stops to allow you the most advantageous viewing points. Keep your cameras ready as we view two more American Bald Eagle nests in the trees along the nearby shorline.
